Winemaking and Tasting Notes
We at GranMonte are proud to be the first grower and only producer of Durif in Thailand. The eastern- France-originated variety is also known as Petite Sirah in the USA. The variety showed great potential in our experimental vineyard after the first planting in 2005 and was then expanded into three sizable blocks. We hand-harvested the grapes at optimum ripeness in the mild February at 23°Brix to avoid overipeness, for juicy flavours and natural acidity. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks—with malolactic fermentation done in second year French oak puncheons—then barrel aged for 21 months to soften the Durif’s distinctive bold tannins.
2022 GranMonte Durif is layered with lively and lifted fruit aromas on the nose. On the palate, the wine reveals juicy plum character, blackcurrant, violet, leather and a hint of black pepper. It is youthful wine with vibrant acidity, soft tannins and long lingering finish of mocha and chocolate oak undertone.
