Winemaking and Tasting Notes
Unique in Thailand and only found at GranMonte, the Verdelho grape variety is Portuguese-originated and rare in other parts of the world. The exciting variety in tropical viticulture showed great potential in our experimental vineyard after the first planting in 2005. We have then expanded into two sizable blocks of Verdelho. The vines are now 12 years old and GranMonte is proud to be the first grower and only producer of Verdelho in Thailand. The grapes were hand-harvested at optimum ripeness in the cool February at 23°Brix for juicy flavours and natural acidity, then vinified in stainless steel to preserve the aromatics.
2021 GranMonte Verdelho is a wonderful reflection of our tropical climate and soil, where the grapes ripen in the cool winter month. The wine is layered with a tropical fruit and white flowers on the nose. On the palate, the wine reveals ripe mango, minerals and a hint of white pepper. It is aromatic, full- bodied, and luscious with dry palate and a long lingering finish. This wine pairs well with both Thai and international cuisine.
